She was a Russian mathematician. To be able to carry on her mathematics studies abroad, she had to contract a false marriage with Vladimir Kovalevski.
She registered at Heidelberg University ( Germany) in 1869 then in Berlin but because she was a woman she couldn't attend the courses so she followed private courses. A theorem is named after her research: Cauchy-Kowalevski theorem.
She is also known for many other worksand was later one of the first university female teachers in Europe ( Stockholm).
