Women in arts
by Louise D. & Pauline S.
The women form the half of the humanity but there is an inequality on the laws.
There are many examples:
89 % of the musical institutions are directed by men.
97 % of the music we hear was composed by men.
94 % of the orchestras are directed by men.
78 % of the shows which we see were made by men.
86 % of the conservatories are directed by men.
Studies demonstrated that it was women who made pottery, textile, jewels and baskets in the Neolithic.
In the Middle Ages, women made tapestries and illuminations. According to the legend, the Bayeux’s tapestry, 70 meters long, was embroided by Queen Mathilde.
During the revival, many women became painters but they were never called "master" because this name was reserved for the men only.
At the end of the XVIIth century, 15 women were admitted in the French Academy of Fine Arts and sculpture!
